Fresh off capturing the Class 10 championship at the 2024 BFGoodrich SCORE Baja 1000, Matias Arjona IV continues to establish himself as one of Mexico's most promising desert racing talents. The Ensenada-based driver's recent Class 10 victory at the legendary peninsula race demonstrates his ability to conquer SCORE's most demanding challenge, following his dominant performances in SCORE Lites competition.
Arjona's championship pedigree includes multiple SCORE Baja 500 class victories in SCORE Lites, claiming titles in both 2019 and 2021 while mastering the historic desert classic. His proven ability to handle the grueling Baja terrain was first showcased in 2017 when he earned a podium finish with third place in his class at the SCORE Baja 1000, establishing his credentials on the world's premier desert racing stage.
The multi-generational racer has shown remarkable consistency across different classes, transitioning from SCORE Lites success to Class 10 championship form. His 2024 Baja 1000 triumph represents the culmination of years of experience gained racing alongside family members through Baja's unforgiving desert landscape, positioning him as a rising star in international off-road competition.
Also running consistently, finishing at the top of the class, was Doug Satterfield in SCORE Lites. Satterfield in the No.1229 car competed against Oscar R. Alvarez in the No 1221 car, and Matias Arjona IV in the No. 1202 car. Read More
Within the SCORE Lites class, there were a total of 10 competitors who took on the 466-mile course, but only six finished. Among them was Matias Arojna IV and his family in the No. 1202 car, who ultimately hung on to finish and win the class. The win was some vindication for a disappointing DNF in San Felipe, but one that still had its difficulties to achieve. " It was a really nice day for us,†said Arojna IV. Both my dad and I got to drive some fun sections. I blew a corner and a shock absorber at the beginning, but after that, we had a perfect race. Despite the fact that we raced more than 400 miles without our front shock, it was a great day." Read More
