    ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Celebrating 53 Years of Desert Racing Excellence’, The countdown continues for the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250, now featuring significant improvements to the 283-mile race course. This year, pre-running will be limited to just one week in the municipality of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.

      From March 20 to March 27, 2026, race teams will have exclusive access to pre-run the SCORE San Felipe 250, a race famously known as ‘Baby Baja’, which takes place along the pristine shores of the Sea of Cortez on the eastern side of the Baja California Peninsula. Previously, pre-running lasted three weeks, but this year, SCORE International officials decided to reduce it to only one week.

      SCORE International President Jose A. Grijalva explained that the decision prioritizes the safety of the racers: “We remain focused on protecting our racers, but we are also paying special attention to the communities along the Baja California Peninsula where our race course pass. Local residents and private landowners requested fewer days without access to their lands for daily activities. We must respect and take care of the people who open their homes and lands to us. That’s why pre-running must maintain very controlled speeds—not full race speeds,”.

       Pre-running is one of the most anticipated activities for racers and teams, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the Baja´s terrain and race courses, while also giving local fans the chance to meet desert racers stars, request stickers and posters, and take photos.

      The Round 1 of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship, composed of four events, will take place from March 25 to March 29 in the picturesque and peaceful municipality of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.

      The traditional pre-race Tech Inspection and Contingency Row, as well as the start/finish area, will be located along San Felipe’s iconic Malecon, set against the stunning turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez.

      San Felipe is situated 125 miles south of the U.S. border at Calexico, California, along the eastern coast of the Baja California Peninsula on the Sea of Cortez. All four rounds of the 2026 SCORE International calendar will take place on the majestic Baja California Peninsula, marking the 11th consecutive year that the entire championship is held in Mexican territory.

     This is the most important sports and tourism event of the year for the municipality of San Felipe, generating the largest economic impact under the leadership of Mayor Jose Luis Dagnino Lopez. It also marks the beginning of the four rounds of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship, organized by SCORE International, the world’s leading organization in Off-Road racing.

A STRONG RESPONSE IN REGISTRATIONS

      As of today, 95 race teams are registered for the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250, reflecting a 15% increase compared to the same date in 2025. This confirms that the race remains a favorite among competitors from both Mexico and the United States.

     Racers come from 16 U.S. states, as well as the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, the host country Mexico, and international participants from Australia, Canada, Ecuador, France, Israel, and New Zealand. Organizers expect that the total number of teams on race day will exceed 250.

     Among the officially registered drivers for the SCORE San Felipe 250 is Bryce Menzies, Las Vegas, Nevada, competing in his No. 7 Ford Raptor Mason AWD Menzies Motorsports. He was the overall winner and SCORE Trophy Truck champion in the 2021 ‘Baby Baja’.

      Eric Solorzano, Tijuana, Mexico, one of only two Mexicans inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, will aim for victory in Class 11. He is one of the most successful drivers in SCORE history in this class, including his historic win at the SCORE Baja 2000, which started in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, and finished in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

       In 2026, SCORE will celebrate 11 consecutive years of hosting all its races, including the legendary SCORE Baja 1000, in Mexico—specifically within the magical and mysterious Baja California Peninsula.

PRE-RUNNING RULES

      Since the 6th SCORE Baja 400 in last September, new rules have been implemented for race teams during pre-runnings of the race course, always prioritizing the safety of Baja California residents along the race course, both in urban and rural areas.

      SCORE International staff will be present in various sections of the SCORE San Felipe 250 race course to monitor speed and safety, particularly on roads used by local traffic.

      Racers must come to a complete stop at all road crossings, where SCORE will place signage both in the digital race course file and physically along the race course. Racers are required to maintain low speeds when passing through towns along the race course. Digital and physical signs will be placed one mile before and one mile after each town.

      The pre-runnings is not a race. Competitors are expected to drive at moderate speeds, respecting traffic regulations and local residents at all times. Any participant who violates the pre-running rules—either with documented evidence or reported by SCORE officials—will face penalties prior to the race, as determined by the SCORE Race Director, Jose A. Grijalva.

LIVE COVERAGE ON SCORE TV

      SCORE TV will provide full coverage of the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250, led by the official voice of SCORE International, two-time ESPN X Games medalist Rat Sult. Sult will be in his 11th season conducting interviews at the contingency row ramp, start, and finish lines.

      He will also serve as the master of ceremonies for the SCORE San Felipe 250 awards ceremony on Sunday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. PT, at Pavillion at El Dorado Ranch in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.

      Kevin Johnson returns as SCORE’s secondary announcer at the rampo of contingency row, start, and finish lines. Like Sult, he will conduct interviews in both English and Spanish with the racers.

THE BEGINNING

        In 1982, then-SCORE owner Sal Fish decided to add a third race to the SCORE calendar in the Baja California Peninsula, giving rise to the SCORE San Felipe 250.

        The inaugural race in 1982 featured 232 teams, with 133 finishing the popular “Spring Break” event. In the vehicle class, Dan Cornwell claimed victory behind the wheel of a Volkswagen-powered Chenowth buggy in Class 1. After many years behind the wheel, Cornwell also served for several years, until recently, as Technical Director of SCORE International.

        In motorcycles, the winner of the first 1982 edition was Bob Balentine, who triumphed on a Honda XR500 in Class 22.

RAT, THE FANS’ FAVORITE IN BAJA

       The popular Rat Sult enters his 11th season as the official voice of SCORE International. A two-time medalist in ESPN’s X Games for street luger, Sult will be joined once again by Kevin Johnson behind the microphone for all four rounds this season, covering tech inspection ramp, the start, and the finish line.

        A fan favorite in Mexico, Sult is known for his unique sense of humor, conducting interviews with SCORE racers in both English and Spanish. He also splits his time between the microphone and the driver’s seat of Mark Winkelman’s No. 25L Ford Raptor in the SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend class.

        In 2026, it will mark 11 consecutive years in which all SCORE races, including the legendary SCORE Baja 1000, have taken place in Mexico, specifically within the magical and mysterious Baja California Peninsula.

La primera fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International contará con el arranque de sus recorridos el Viernes 20 de Marzo de 2026, y oficiales de SCORE estarán cuidando los límites de velocidad en la ruta de 283 millas durante esta actividad de la carrera

     Ensenada, Baja California, México– “Celebrando 53 Años de Excelencia en las Carreras del Desierto”, sigue la cuenta regresiva para la edición 39 de la King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250, y con mejoras importantes en el tema de los recorridos a la ruta de 283 millas, con solamente una semana de recorridos en el municipio de San Felipe, Baja California, México.

      Del 20 de Marzo al 27 de Marzo de 2026 será el periodo exclusivo de recorridos para los equipos participantes en la SCORE San Felipe 250, carrera conocida como “La Bebé de las Bajas” que se llevará a cabo a lo largo de las costas vírgenes del Mar de Cortés, en el lado este de la península de Baja California. Anteriormente eran 3 semanas de recorridos, pero en este año, directivos de SCORE International tomaron la decisión de reducir a 1 semana solamente.

       El Presidente de SCORE International, Jose Abelardo Grijalva, dio a conocer que es una medida pensada en la seguridad de los corredores, “seguiremos enfocados en cuidar a nuestros corredores, pero también con atención especial hacia la comunidad de la península de Baja California por donde pasan las rutas de nuestras carreras, ejidos y dueños de propiedades privadas nos pidieron el tener menos días sin recorridos para hacer sus actividades diarias, debemos de respetar y cuidar a la gente que nos abre las puertas de sus casas, de sus tierras, es por eso que los recorridos deben de mantenerse con velocidades muy controladas, no de carrera”, afirmó.

        Los recorridos son una de las actividades que más disfrutan los corredores y equipos de competencia, al poder reconocer los terrenos y las rutas por donde pasarán el día de la carrera, sumado a la alegría de muchos ciudadanos mexicanos que esperan por ellos para solicitarles calcomanías, posters y tomarse fotografías con los corredores.

         La primera fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International, que está conformado por cuatro competencias, se llevará a cabo del 25 al 29 de Marzo en el pintoresco y tranquilo municipio de San Felipe, Baja California, México.

      La tradicional Revisión Mecánica y Contingencia previa a la carrera fuera de camino, así como el área de salida y meta, estarán ubicadas en el emblemático Malecón de San Felipe, teniendo como escenario las impresionantes aguas azul turquesa del Mar de Cortés.

      San Felipe se encuentra a 125 millas al sur de la frontera con Estados Unidos, en Calexico, California, en la costa este de la península de Baja California, a lo largo del Mar de Cortés. Las cuatro fechas del calendario 2026 de SCORE International se disputarán en la majestuosa península de Baja California, marcando el undécimo año consecutivo en que la totalidad del campeonato se celebrará en territorio mexicano.

       Este es el evento deportivo y turístico de mayor importancia en el año para el municipio de San Felipe, Baja California, México, el que genera mayor derrama económica para el municipio encabezado por el alcalde José Luis Dagnino López, y el comienzo de las 4 fechas del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International, la organización más importante a nivel mundial en la realización de carreras fuera de camino.

UNA GRAN RESPUESTA DE INSCRIPCIONES

       Hasta hoy se cuenta con 95 equipos registrados para la edición 39 de la King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250, lo que habla de un 15 por ciento de mejora con relación a esta misma fecha del año en relación para esta carrera en 2025, reafirmándose que la carrera es una de las favoritas de los corredores en México y Estados Unidos.

        Se cuenta con corredores de 16 estados de los Estados Unidos, así como del territorio estadounidense, Puerto Rico, el país anfitrión México, Australia, Canadá, Ecuador, Francia, Israel y Nueva Zelanda, esperando que la cifra de equipos inscritos para el día de la carrera sea mayor a los 250 equipos.   

         Entre los corredores que aparecen ya en los registros oficiales para la SCORE San Felipe 250, se cuenta con Bryce Menzies, de Las Vegas, Nevada, a bordo de su Ford Raptor Mason de doble tracción Número 7 del equipo Menzies Motorsports, ganador overall y de los SCORE Trophy Trucks de la edición 2021 de “La Bebé de las Bajas”.

       Eric Solórzano, de Tijuana, Baja California, México, uno de dos mexicanos que pertenecen al Salón de la Fama del Off-Road, intentará ganar la SCORE San Felipe 250 en la Clase 11, corredor que es de los más ganadores en la historia de SCORE en esta clase, sumado a su histórica victoria en la SCORE Baja 2000 que arrancó en Ensenada, Baja California, México, y finalizó en Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México.

       En este 2026, se cumplirán 11 años en forma consecutiva en la que todas las carreras de SCORE, incluida la legendaria SCORE Baja 1000, se llevarán a cabo en México, en específico dentro de la península mágica y misteriosa de Baja California.

REGLAS PARA LOS RECORRIDOS

       Desde Septiembre de 2025 en la edición 6 de la SCORE Baja 400, se implementaron nuevas reglas para los equipos de competencia en los recorridos de reconocimiento a la ruta de carrera, siempre pensando en la seguridad de los ciudadanos de Baja California por donde pasará la carrera, tanto en la ciudad, como en zonas rurales.

       Staff de SCORE International estará en diferentes zonas de la ruta de la SCORE San Felipe 250 para observar temas de velocidad y temas de seguridad, en especial dentro de caminos usados por el tráfico local.

       Los corredores deben de hacer alto total en los cruces de camino, zonas en la que SCORE colocará señalamientos, tanto en el archivo digital de la ruta, así como en forma física dentro de la misma pista. Se debe de manejar a velocidades bajas en los poblados por donde pasará la ruta, se colocarán señalamientos digitales y físicos en la ruta, una milla antes de un poblado, y una milla después.

       El periodo de recorridos no es una carrera, se debe de manejar a velocidades moderadas, con lo que se pide que los corredores respeten las normas de tránsito y a los ciudadanos en todo momento, quienes rompan una regla de recorrido, con pruebas de por medio, o siendo reportados por oficiales de SCORE, se le aplicará castigos previos a la carrera por parte del Director de Carrera de SCORE, José Abelardo Grijalva.

TRANSMISIÓN EN VIVO POR SCORE TV

      El programa SCORE TV contará con la cobertura total de la edición 39 de la King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250, de la mano de la voz oficial de SCORE International, el doble medallista de los X Games de ESPN, Rat Sult, quien estará en su temporada número 11 como el encargado de entrevistas en la rampa de revisión mecánica, salida y meta.

      Sult también será el maestro de ceremonias de la ceremonia de premiación de la SCORE San Felipe 250 que será el Domingo 29 de Marzo a las 11 de la mañana, tiempo del Pacífico, en el Pabellón del Dorado Ranch en San Felipe, Baja California, México. Kevin Johnson regresará como segunda voz de SCORE en la rampa de revisión mecánica, salida y meta, quien, al igual que Sult, estarán realizando entrevistas en inglés y español con los corredores.

EL COMIENZO

      En 1982, el entonces propietario de SCORE, Sal Fish, decidió sumar una tercera carrera al calendario de SCORE en la península de Baja California, dando origen así a la SCORE San Felipe 250.

      La primera edición de la carrera, en 1982, contó con 232 equipos y 133 finalizaron en la popular competencia de “Spring Break”. El ganador en la categoría de vehículos Dan Cornwell, al volante de un buggy Chenowth con motor Volkswagen en la Clase 1.
